JANUARY EVENTS:
- Tea & Bonsai – Winter Retreat – Saturday, January 11, 2020; 10am-4pm. Hosted by Nancy Flynn and Jason Schley. The focus is on the inter-connective practices of a Tea Ceremony and Bonsai. The Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony will be held in the morning, followed by a free vegan lunch prepared by Ms. Flynn, after which Jason will offer a Bonsai 101 class. The class will provide each student with a tree and tools and instruction and guidance.Cost is $85.00. Check Jason’s website or call him for details. (Our club will not be providing assistance at this event.)
- NEXT KAWA MEETING – Saturday, January 18, 2020, 12pm – 4pm @ Jason’s Bonsai Nursery, Deland. Agenda Items to include:
- Identification of KAWA members’ assistance at Winter Bonfire and Bonsai Night
- Identification of education topics, speakers, workshops, working sessions for KAWA 2020 Meetings. (Goal: develop a calendar for the year.)
- JOY of Bonsai – there is much planning and follow up that now needs to be a priority. This includes:
- Reminding vendors that you know that space is limited and they need to register asap.
- Deciding what asian hors d’oeuvres we can serve Friday evening. We have limited cooking space, so we will need items that can be served cold or kept in crock pots. One suggestion made at our Christmas Party, during an informal discussion, was sweet and sour meatballs. Traditionally, the Hors d’oeuvres have been provided by our membership for Joy of Bonsai registrants for Friday. These are “nibblies”, not dinner! So, not only make suggestions, but think about what you would like to provide.
- Bonsai tree display – our members and others
- Our bonsai topic of discussion will be “Preparing a Tree for Winter Silhouette”. Bring the tree(s) you are considering displaying at the Winter Bonfire and Bonsai Night. Assistance/recommendations will be available.
- PURCHASE OF BLUEBERRY BUSHES – January 26 and February 9, meet at Schley’s Bonsai Nursery at 9am, more information on event pages.
HOLIDAY PARTY RECAP:
Our Christmas Party was a great success. 21 persons were able to attend. We set up tables under the pole barn, every member brought a dinner dish or dessert (we had enough food for two parties). The weather was very good; God was good to us – it didn’t start raining until the party ended and almost all “clean up” was done. Our Secret Santa was fun. I would like to thank everyone for their willingness to bring a dish/dessert and to those that were able to help with set up and clean up. A special thank you to Jamie Madeya who helped with all those last minute needs during setup. In a few short words – “OUR PARTY WAS GREAT!” And we missed those of you who were unable to attend.
