News about this month’s KAWA activities
Kawa’s November meeting was an interesting demo by our President Mike Rogers on a very old collected Ilex Schillings holly. Mike styled, carved and repotted the tree at the November meeting. The tree had a lot of dead wood and detail carving to work on and Mike started to carve after the tree was given a basic styling. Mike worked on the tree for some time and left some of the carving work for a future date so he didn’t stress the tree at this time. The tree was removed from its nursery pot and repotted in a bonsai container with bonsai soil mix to start the tree along it’s path to becoming a real bonsai! The tree was wired, pruned and given a basic style by Mike, again airing on the side of caution so as not to stress this interesting tree. I brought the tree back home and secured a spot in the greenhouse to make sure the tree stays warm this winter to develop roots and continue to grow and develope.
We had a short business meeting making plans for the December Christmas Party and working out details for the 2014 January Joy of Bonsai event. Refreshments and a lot of bonsai talk followed and fun was had by all! Thank you and I hope to see the members at the December Christmas Party. Happy Thanksgiving to all my bonsai friends and members may you have a safe and happy holiday! See you all soon!
Thank you for a great bonsai evening!!!
